The event setting is the Historic BHP Single Men’s Quarters which were opened in 1942, the quarters were used to accommodate workers employed at the ship yard whilst they waited for housing. In 1990 this Historic setting was given a new lease on life when the Tanderra Craft Village opened.
The craft village was established in 1990 as a community centre to provide an outlet for locally made handcrafts, and as a permanent home for the development of crafts in Whyalla. The Tanderra Craft Village features a craft market, speciality shops, tea rooms and special interest groups. Location: Lincoln Highway (Port Augusta Road), 300 metres north of Whyalla Visitor Centre.
